“You can conquer almost any fear if you will only make up your mind to do so. For remember, fear doesn’t exist anywhere except in the mind.” Dale Carnegie
What pushes some people beyond their comfort zone while others are hiding behind the curtains to avoid any fear and feeling uncomfortable? What makes us courageous?
There were many moments in my life when I was scared to death. Fear played with my mind and gave me hundreds of reasons not to act. My great motivation was the fact that I knew that there is something more. I knew that life is much better than what I have seen because others are accomplishing extraordinary things. It made me pissed off. I knew I deserve more and I wanted more which forced me to act.
Stop letting consequences or people dictate your destiny. You have to step up and face your life at some point. I put together this simple guide on how to conquer your fears and become free. I hope these few steps will help you in becoming fearless and take control of your life.
1. Stop being comfortable
Do you know how many people lie to themselves that their life is “pretty good?” They create this illusion of happiness and fulfillment, but if you ask them what they truly want, get ready for the long list of all their desires and dreams. And here comes the question? Why do we let it go and settle?
Once you stop stretching yourself, you will become numb. Your comfortable zone is a dangerous territory. You get comfortable, you stop growing, and you stop challenging yourself. This is the moment you start spiritually dying.
Sometimes making a big move takes a longer time and that’s fine. You don’t have to make your biggest breakthrough within a week but you must keep moving forward. Accept any little challenge and take it one day at the time.
2. Pain motivator
If you read my articles, you’ve noticed that I talk about pain quite a lot. I am convinced, based on my experience, that we need to feel pain on some level if we want to break through. It may be a pain from a lack of money, pain from a unfulfilling job, pain from a toxic relationship. Dissatisfaction is what pushes you to act because you are being hurt by your present circumstances.
Don’t deny your pain. It is a signal, an indicator that you are not living the life you want. And that’s good. You need something to point you in the right direction. Listen to your pain and your heart. You know the best for yourself and your future.
3. Action is the answer
Think about this as a mental gym. If you want to build your muscles and look sexy, you need to go to the gym and do the work, along with the right diet. Same applies to courage. You need to take action and keep stretching. Any little thing, which you feel is challenging you, is a great exercise for your mind.
Once you start working on yourself, things which challenged you in the past will become a piece of cake today. But you need to do the work. Don’t make one or two moves and then stop. Keep working hard and grow, make progress. You will become addicted to this growth because of the rewarding feeling of confidence which comes afterward.
4. Create quality mindset
If you are balanced and in a peace with yourself, overcoming fear become much easier that if you are stressed out and frustrated. Since fear is only an illusion in your mind and it isn’t real, you can control it by strengthening your mindset and creating a level of certainty.
I have noticed that we often let fear take over because somewhere deep down in our hearts, we don’t believe that we are strong enough to handle it. We create this false belief and adapt our mindset to it. This creates our self-image and overall reality.
Remember that whatever you focus on and believe is what you get because that’s the law. In order for you to change this mental state, you need to take required action and convince yourself that you have the balls to handle anything. You are the only person who needs to believe in you. Just recently, I wrote an article about building a self-image of a champion which you can find here. It will help you in creating a level of certainty you need in the future.
5. Challenge yourself – Level Up
So far you have made a few decisions that you are not letting fear stops you anymore which is great because many people fail right at the beginning. Now it is time to level-up. Intentionally find things which challenge you and work on overcoming them.
You have no limits in life. The best way how to make your personal growth faster is to create momentum and stay on track. When you feel the excitement from conquering your fears, don’t sit and relax because that’s where you break. Keep on going. Remember that every little courageous act counts.
