“You don’t need to know precisely what is happening, or exactly where it is all going. What you need is to recognize the possibilities and challenges offered by the present moment, and to embrace them with courage, faith, and hope.” Thomas Merton
Do you know the feeling when something unexpected happens in your life and for a second, you feel like you suffocate? Your heart is beating so fast that your entire chest is moving and you are panicking what the hell you are going to do about this situation.
I had this moment of confusion just recently. It felt like the situation was completely out of my hands (which actually was) and the only thing I could do was to calm my mind down and take control of myself. You know, it was one of those situations when circumstances play the game, and you can’t beat them.
I am only 27 years old, but I’ve learned that life changes in an instant. I’ve learned that one day you can feel like the luckiest person in the world, jumping for joy. But the next day you are sitting on a bench at 1 o’clock in the morning, with your suitcase next to you, not knowing where you are going to sleep or what you are going to eat. I’ve learned that when life treats you poorly, you can’t just sit there and sob and feel sorry. You better slap that bitch and demand better for yourself.
Since nothing in life is for sure and we all experience our adventures, I have for you 7 ways how you can embrace your faith in uncertain times.
1. See the bigger picture
What are your goals for the next 5 years? Where do you see yourself? Don’t use your present situation to define what is going to happen next year. Just because you are struggling with money now, doesn’t mean you are going to struggle in 6 months.
If you get into a tight position in life, focus on what is ahead of you. Don’t beat yourself down with a present situation because you only get depressed. The art of life and powerful mindset is seeing the positive in the negative and always having the bigger picture of your future.
2. Accept sacrifice
Do you remember the last time when your life changed within a moment, and nothing was the same again? Sometimes it is associated with pleasant circumstances; sometimes there is a lesson you need to learn.
There are moments when you need to sacrifice things you love, things you enjoy because this is what the situation requires. I know people who got to the bottom of a financial struggle but didn’t stop enjoying high-maintenance life until they lost their apartments or got evicted. I also know individuals who sacrifice almost every penny for many years, so later they can invest and take their life to the next level. Do you see where am I coming from? Sacrifice is only harmful if your mind sees it this way.
3. Stay active
The worst thing to do when life gets rough is to go into a relax mode. This time is everything but not the time to chill. Stay on the top of yourself and make a plan. Sit down and brainstorm how to make your life better, how to improve your emotional state and what is required for you to change the present situation.
Look, what happened, it’s done. You can’t change the past so stop thinking about it and wasting your energy. Get into action and create quick changes. Before you start, make a strategic plan and stay dedicated it.
4. Understand attitude
Your attitude towards life, towards problems or any person will determine the overall outcome. So many great things were accomplished with a positive attitude, in situations where hope couldn’t be seen.
The only certain thing in uncertain times is your mind, your thoughts and your attitude. You can lose it all, but your mind will always be with you. Strength is built in the time of crisis, not while sipping a margarita on the beach.
5. Be a tough cookie
I don’t recommend to have this tough attitude 24/7, but you need to learn how to kick ass. As much as I believe that life can be phenomenal, I also know that there are too many nasty and fake people who want to see you down. Having this attitude of a tough cookie is crucial when you are going through some difficulties because you tend to be more vulnerable.
6. Build up your self-belief
Creating healthy self-esteem should be your everyday job until the day you die. Nothing can carry you in life as good as your confidence and that you are capable of accomplishing and overcoming big things. Too many dreams are killed by people who don’t believe they can make it. Lack of self-belief makes people give in and quit.
The only way to embrace your self-belief is through practice. You have to feel it and experience it to make it a reality. I can tell you that I believe in you and that I know you have the potential to create great things but the real conviction comes after you see it for yourself.
7. Refuse to quit
I think we have gone through a few great points on how to keep your faith in guard while feeling uncertainty in life. But the most crucial step is to never give up. You only win the game if you get to the finish line, so I want to encourage you to make a decision. Make a decision of your life that no matter how rough it gets, no matter how challenging and impossible your life looks right now, you will never quit. Remember that you and your life are always moving and nothing will be the same. Pain will pass as well as happiness because that’s life. We fall so we can get up and learn the beauty of the process.
The only difference in the quality of your life is what you do and what decisions you make. You shape your life so make it a masterpiece. It is only a matter of a choice.
