“When I thought I couldn’t go on, I forced myself to keep going. My success is based on persistence, not luck.” Estee Lauder
It is proven, based on every successful individual ever lived; that persistence is one of the key factors in one’s success. It is the fuel which can hold you in good and bad times, especially when you deal with hardships or feeling of being stuck. Everyone who ever decided to go down this road and accomplish something bigger knew, that developing persistence is crucial.
I think one the positive facts about persistence is that you can develop it. It is not something you are born with. It’s your willpower which creates this behavior and action. Persistence is an integral part of any achievement in your life.
Here are five ways you can use to develop persistence in your life.
1. Identify your goals and obstacles
Before you jump on the road and start pursuing your dreams and desires, you need to know what goal you are chasing. What exactly is going to be necessary to accomplish it? By identifying your goals and barriers connected to it, you get a better picture of what to expect. Once you predict what possible hardships you may deal with, you’ll create a strong foundation under your feet and prepare yourself for what’s to come. It will make you stronger and more persistent in what you do because you already know that this is part of your success story.
2. Make it a habit
This step is necessary. Not only with persistence, but anything in your life what is important to you must become a habit. I don’t want to play smart cookie, but it is quite simple. Not easy, but simple. Persistence can become your habit only if you use it often or, more than likely, all the time. After first obstacles you overcome, you will develop a habit of being persistent by using it. This activity is all you need to do. After a while, it will become natural to you and you’ll determination will rise.
3. Prepare yourself to handle any failure
You and I know that failure is part of any success in life. One of the best ways to strengthen our mental attitude and develop unshakable persistence is to accept this fact as nothing else in the world. You need to understand truly that failure will come to you, no matter how hard you are trying to avoid it. Once you realize it, it won’t slap you in the face so hard. Look at the failure as a lesson, knowledge or step forward.
4. Surround yourself with positive people
Having right people around who share your vision and support will play a significant role in your life. It is something that has a great value for you, your psychological health and the fact of not giving up. You cannot make it always on your own; strength comes from integrity, not individuality. Being among supportive individuals will empower your persistence and motivate you to stay dedicated to yourself.
5. Take care of your mental health
Everything begins with a spirit. Spirit is far more powerful than anything else. By feeling a balance in your life, you will be more powerful and in charge of everything that is going on around you. It will allow you to use bigger part of your potential. When you are mentally stronger, being persistent in what you do is much easier. We all need to find the balance between activities which need to be done and also relax our mind and body needs. We need to recharge from time to time and strengthen our mental attitude to get ready to fight with anything that comes along the way.
