4 Uncomfortable Feelings Essential for Positive Personal Growth

courage within you

It’s official. Most of the time the hardest experience, most painful, build the best part of us. I know you don’t want to hear this, but you and I need to “man up” and accept that feelings which don’t let you sleep at night are actually preparing you for the best time of your life.

In the past, I was trying to avoid pain or feeling uncomfortable, so I created this illusion of happiness in my life. Then came the day when I flipped the lit because of some trivial issue, destroyed half of my apartment in anger and cried for 5 hours straight how bad my life actually is (yes, I am exaggerating, but if I can picture my feelings for you, this is how it looked). Sounds familiar?

The problem here is our perspective. We think that feeling uncomfortable is something we shouldn’t feel. That’s not true. These feelings are an indicator that we need change, or they are a fuel which helps us to break through fear or pain. However, not every negative or bad feeling is good for personal growth which is necessary to recognize. Here are 4 uncomfortable feelings which are a great source of strength and courage.

1. Fear

It is a big lie that brave people don’t feel fear. We all fear things in life no matter how much we try not to. Without fear, there is no courage, right? Being afraid is one of the best ways to train your courage and move forward.

You may have heard it that courage is like a muscle. If you train it, it becomes stronger and immune towards things you fear. By constant practice, you will develop powerful mindset and habit of doing things in spite of fear which can take you further in life that you can imagine.

2. Dissatisfaction

If you constantly feel satisfy with your life and who you are, what can challenge you to do better or become better? Feeling of dissatisfaction will always push you to go this extra mile and to the extra work because you want more from life.

Don’t get me wrong, an attitude of gratitude is vital because we must appreciate things in life we already have. But wanting more is simply understanding that potential has no limits and the best thing you can do it to use it.

3. Pain

And here it is. The feeling of pain we all run away from, some of us in a good direction, some of us not. I know you don’t want to feel pain and I know you weren’t born to live in pain, no one deserves it. But you need to understand that pain will push you forward, it will give you courage and power to go beyond limits.

Recently, I was dealing with a far-reaching situation in my life, and I knew that until I am going to be in enough pain, I won’t take the step I need to take. I was literally putting myself in the painful state of mind and eventually, I made the step since I couldn’t take it anymore. The important thing here is to let pain make you better, not bitter. Take 10 minutes of your time and think about the last breakthrough you made in the past which freed you from the negative situation or feelings. What was the cause of it? Did you find out it was the pain?

4. Struggle

Nothing gives you better knowledge about life than struggle. It not only builds up your strength but also gives you more reasons to appreciate the good times. No matter how painful struggle may feel, at the end, when things are over, you feel proud of yourself.

Do you sometimes look at successful people, respected people and wish to be like them? Then you have to go back and read their biographies because they didn’t become successful because of luck. Their past is full of struggle and pain, obstacles and courageous breakthroughs which drove them to overcome the pain. Respect doesn’t come from luck; respected people did something what majority don’t do because they are scared. Their will to avoid pain is greater than the will to achieve extraordinary results.

The next time when you deal with pain, fear or any struggle, remember that they are here to make you better and stronger if you let it. Your mind is the most powerful tool you have been given, and it is up to you how you are going to use it. Take all your experience and use them to help yourself and others. Find benefit in them.
