Everyone who is following their dreams knows that this isn’t some romantic journey that people love to make it out to be. It certainly isn’t the same journey as how you see it in the movies. You don’t fail a couple of times and then get a motivational speech from some guy or gal who just finds you at the right time in the right place and then through some miracle you make ‘it’ happen. What you do find are reality-checks. These are really hard to deal with, especially when you don’t have a strong support system (which is often the case when you decide to follow your dreams) and feel like you are the only one who believes in you.
However, the road to achieving your dreams is a lonely one, so don’t worry. What you need is someone who understands you and tells you why you should keep doing what you’re doing. And that’s what I’m about to tell you, from one dream chaser to another. It’s what you love.
1. It’s what you love
Trust me; no person can ever survive continuous rejections, failures, mockery’s and so forth. There is only one type of person who can; the dreamers. These people aren’t more disciplined or persistent than the average person. They just really love what they do. It’s what they are meant to do in their lives. If they did something else with their lives, they would be unhappy. So basically, the journey with more pitfalls than any other, and one that most people tend to avoid, is for a dreamer the only path to fulfillment and happiness. That’s why you should keep doing what you’re doing, no matter how deviant your path may be from society’s norm. You’re responsible for your happiness, so don’t be afraid to stand up for it.
2. Nobody’s perfect
Let me ask you a simply question; when somebody tells you things about a subject you’ve never heard before, you’re going to have questions right? The same thing applies to your dreams. You can’t figure it out from the start because you’ve never achieved your dreams before. It doesn’t matter if not everything goes as how you would like it to be. We are all human, and it’s in our DNA to make mistakes. What matters is that you try. You try to make the most out of each opportunity. You try to give it your 110%. You try to make every second count. However, you’ll learn to accept that a lot of things won’t go as planned, but that you can still try to make the most out of these situations.
“It’s not about the cards you’re dealt, but how you play the hand.” Randy Pausch.
3. Time will pass by anyway
‘It costs too much time’ is arguably the most used reason that people use to quit on their goals. Not only is this line of reasoning totally untrue, but it’s also a sign of having a wrong mindset and attitude towards life. You probably know the saying; what comes easy won’t last and what lasts won’t come easy. This saying reinforces the idea that you need to invest time and effort for a longer period than normal to achieve results that are everything but normal.
What else will you do when you stop working on your goals? Probably catching up on all the things that you didn’t have time for when you were working on your goals. However, trust me when I say that you’ll get bored very easily when you’re acting without purpose. A true go-getter won’t find happiness in short-term satisfaction. Assuming you’re a true go-getter since you clicked on this article. Do you know what costs even more than time? Regret.
4. You got one shot
You truly only got one chance in your life to make it happen. The only excuse that is valid not to work on your goals is when you’re buried under the ground in a coffin. Then you have no choice just to rest and enjoy what you’ve accomplished in your life. However, I’m assuming that you’re just fine and alive since you’re reading this. So please take a moment and think about how fortunate you are to live in an era with endless opportunities to make your wildest dreams come true.
Let me tell you a short story; I’m the first one to tell you that it was never one of my goals to become a blogger. Heck, I never even thought about it, until I found out what the internet actually has to offer for people who want to make a difference in the world. That’s how I became a blogger. I felt like I couldn’t let this opportunity slip away to have a positive impact on people. If I can take on opportunities as they come by, a guy who is average in everything and excels in nothing except for being passionate about what he believes in, why can’t you?
“You only live once, but if you do it right, once is enough” – Mae West.
I know that giving up is sometimes really tempting to do. It just immediately ends all the frustration and everything along with it. But what it also ends are your hopes and dreams. I know for a fact that you already exactly know what you need to do to achieve your goals. You just needed a little reminder about why you should never give up on your goals. You just needed me to be that guy that gave you that motivational speech just in the right place at the right time. Now, go out and make it happen.
