Do you know those moments when you are are having a pretty good day, minding your business and then BOOM! Some bad news got to you, or you experience some upsetting situation, and your mood changed drastically. What if you can change your negative emotional state into positive within a few moments and kill those bad vibes which got under your skin?
You can become in charge of your life and thoughts if you want to. Yes, things happen, and shit hits the fan, we all know that. Those are things we can’t control, but we can manage how we respond to it and how we go along with it. A big part of success, any success whether at home or on your job or business depends on how well you can handle frustration. And the best way is to learn how to change your emotional state within minutes and gain control.
Since I have found this all mind thing quite challenging and I know that many of you guys struggle with it too, I have listed for you 3 simple ways how you can change your negative emotional state into positive where all you need is willpower and some focus.
1. Choose one thing which excites you and put your mind and body into it
I am going to start with an example, so I can give you the exact picture of what I mean by that. Recently I was working on a project almost all day, but at the end, things didn’t look the way I wanted plus some technical issues added up. I got pretty frustrated and closed my laptop since I knew I am not in the right mental state to continue. In the morning, before all this frustration, I had an idea for my next video on YouTube which excited me so I began thinking about it to cheer myself up. I started to walk around my apartment from one room to another and talk as I am speaking on a video. I visualized how video is going to look, what joke would be good to add, some adjustment here or there and within 10 minutes, I completely forgot about the project and frustration I felt.
Making videos on YouTube is for me something I enjoy, and it doesn’t require too much of my energy because it is a pleasurable action for me. You should choose something “light” as well. Select a thing which excites you and focus on it entirely. Maybe you have a date coming up, and you feel excited about it. Think what you are going to wear and how well the date will go. Perhaps you are planning to buy a new car, and you have been thinking about it for some time. See yourself driving it and enjoying the ride. Chose anything enjoyable and direct your whole energy to this one thing. More than likely you will forget about the whole problem you had and find yourself in a good mood.
2. Grab the book or audio
Personal development books are one of the fastest ways how you can learn about yourself and also train your mind to see positive instead of negative. For some people, the book like this is Bible. Millions of people read Bible to get inspired or find encouragement in life.
Next time when finding yourself upset of frustrated, grab the book. If you haven’t done it, try it now. Maybe you don’t like to read, and I get that, no everyone is about books. That’s why you have books which are transformed into audios, various courses you can listen on your phone or YouTube filled up with compelling, inspiring videos. Some of you may be more realistic and want practical tips on living a better life as this article. There really aren’t any limits in this digital world, so the only thing you need is your will to do it.
3. Remember hilarious moments
What was the funniest thing you remember? When did you laugh so hard that you thought you are going to pee yourself? Recall those moments because the laugh is contagious. Once you start thinking about it, you’ll find yourself smiling because you will remember the good times. If you are getting frustrated or having a moment of sadness, turn to positive things which made you feel good in the past. The present moment, current negative mental state you are in is only temporary, and it can be as short as you made it.
TIP: Find the expression you say or one particular part of your body which you are going to touch the next time when you are in a negative mental state. Let’s say this part of your body is a left shoulder. Each time you touch it, you will remind yourself to change your lousy emotional, mental state. After practicing this for a few times, you will develop a habit. In the future when you touch your left shoulder, your mind will be programmed to focus on something positive immediately.
Same thing happens with the expression you learn to use. One thing I adopted is the expression “the sun is shining.” I started to use it as a child when I hit my toe or accidentally bite my tongue, and it hurt. I immediately said, “the sun is shining” since the sun is a pleasurable object for me and it made me partly forget about the pain.
